Sustainable NLP

Making NLP models run efficiently both on small form factor devices and on data centers, to improve power consumption and latency.

SBUWear

Using wearable devices to improve the accessibility and usability of smartphone applications.

Webgaze

Improving the "perceptual" performance of Web page loads by leveraging user's eye gaze.

WProfX

Significantly improving mobile page load performance by studying the fundamental bottlenecks in the mobile page load process.

  • Aug 2018: Mallesh's work on characterizing how low-end devices (popular in developing regions) affect Internet QoE accepted at IMC 2018. Congratulations to all!

  • June 2018: Jian Xu's paper on Ultra Low Power Screenless Interactions (with collaborators Suwen Wu, Xiaojun Bi, and Roy Shilkrot) accepted for publication at UIST 2018. Congratulations! This is the lab's first HCI paper.

  • May 2018: Jian Xu's work on Voice UI for Alexa (done as part of his internship at Samsung) accepted at EdgeSys workshop

  • May 2018: Its internship time again. Conor-->IBM Research, Qingqing-->MSR, Santiago-->Akamai, Yi--> Brave

  • April 2018: Conor Kelton and Santiago Vargas were invited to a Google summit on Web performance. 

  • March 2018: Aruna and Samir receive a Google Chrome award to improve Web QoE

  • October 2017: Conor Kelton's paper (done as part of his internship at ICSI) accepted at HotNets 2017
